Fort Worth Car Accident Statistics

Fort Worth Car Accident Statistics

Every day, millions of Texans use public roads and highways to drive to work, to visit family, and to pick up groceries from the store. For most, these journeys are relatively unremarkable.

However, as the most recent batch of car accident statistics show, these trips can end in severe injury or even death for some people.

An Overview of State and National Car Accident Statistics

To fully understand the dangers of driving in Texas and throughout the United States, one must look at three sets of statistics – local, state, and national:

Fort Worth, Texas Car Accident Statistics

Fort Worth is the fifth-largest city in Texas and has over 900,000 residents. Thousands of car accidents happen in the city every year. Its dense population and congested interstates and highways are a recipe for motor vehicle accidents. Data are available from the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT), though 2022 is the most recent year as of early March 2024.

In 2022, Fort Worth had the following car accident statistics:

  • 13,401 total motor vehicle accidents
  • 516 serious injuries
  • 120 fatalities from 114 fatal crashes

The statistics were equally troubling in Tarrant County:

  • 28,997 total motor vehicle accidents
  • 1,061 serious injuries
  • 216 fatalities from 208 fatal crashes

There were fewer crashes in Fort Worth in 2022 than in 2021 (that year, there were 14,679 crashes). Still, Fort Worth has one of the highest traffic accident rates in the country. Alarmingly, other cities in Texas have higher accident rates.

Texas Car Accident Statistics

Every year, TxDOT also releases a report that provides more information about the thousands of accidents that occur on its roads and highways. The most recent version of this report showed that:

  • 244,092 people were injured in a motor vehicle crash in Texas in 2022
  • 18,880 of those people sustained injuries that were classified as “serious” by the state
  • 4,481 of those people were fatally injured

Of course, reporting the sheer number of car accidents, injuries, and deaths on Texas roads and highways only tells a small portion of the story. To gain a more fulsome understanding of the dangers of driving in the Lone Star State, one must also learn more about how and why these crashes are occurring. Per the report:

The report continues by explaining that:

  • 1,163 people died in crashes involving drunk driving
  • 484 people died in accidents involving distracted driving
  • 48.03% of those who were killed in crashes on Texas roads were not wearing a seat belt at the time of their accident

Finally, according to the Texas Department of Transportation, 562 motorcyclists were involved in a fatal crash in the Lone Star State in 2022. Of those who died, 39% were not wearing a helmet.

National Car Accident Statistics

To more fully understand the dangers of driving, one must also look at the statistics for the entire nation. Much of this information can be found by reviewing the annual Traffic Safety Facts report that is published by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).

This report uses data from the national Fatality Analysis Reporting System (FARS) and other sources to show how many people are killed and injured on American roads each year.

According to the most recent version of the report:

  • 4,226,677 people were involved in traffic accidents that caused property damage in the United States in 2022
  • 1,664,598 injury car crashes in 2022
  • 39,221 fatal crashes on America’s roads and highways in 2022

The report continues by explaining how those traffic deaths occurred:

  • 19,344 fatalities occurred as the result of a collision with another vehicle
  • 12,151 speed-related fatalities
  • 13,524 alcohol-impaired-driving fatalities
  • 7,312 fatalities occurred as the result of rollovers

It is also useful to know who is being killed in car accidents each year. To find this data, one must turn to the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). Their Yearly Snapshot indicates that:

  • 30,747 males were killed in traffic accidents in 2021
  • 12,051 females died in car crashes in that same year
  • Males aged 25 to 29 are involved in fatal accidents more frequently than any other group

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety also indicates that approximately 9,000 to 12,000 people die in America each year because of speeding. In 2021, 12,330 deaths were caused by drivers failing to adhere to posted speed limits.

Gathering Evidence on Your Behalf

To recover compensation after a car crash, it is not enough to simply claim that you were injured because of the actions of the other party. No, if you wish to emerge from your lawsuit with a check-in your hand, you will need to prove your claims. Generally, this means:

  • Proving that the other party acted negligently
  • Proving that you sustained injuries as a result of their negligence
  • Proving that your injuries are as severe as you claim

Having worked on countless car accident cases over the years, Jason Stephens understands what courts and insurance companies need to see before they will cut a check. When you hire Stephens Law to help you with your case, Jason will immediately get to work gathering this key evidence.

Negotiating with the Other Party’s Insurance Company

Shortly after your car accident lawsuit has been filed, you are likely to be approached by the other party’s insurance company with an offer to settle the case. Unfortunately, the value of their deal is likely to be quite a bit lower than the true value of your case. To get them to improve their offer, some negotiation will probably be needed.

Stephens Law Firm, PLLC founder Jason Stephens has been dealing with penny-pinching insurance companies for years. Jason knows all of the best tactics to use when negotiating with them. When he represents you, he will work diligently to try to land you a fair deal.

Represent You in Court

Should the other party’s insurer be unwilling to agree to a fair settlement deal, you will need to take your pursuit of financial compensation to court. There, a judge will review your case and determine how much (if any) compensation you should receive.

Attorney Jason Stephens has been representing clients in courtrooms throughout Texas for years. He understands how to argue a case in a way that will truly resonate with the judge. When you hire him, you can be certain that you will receive a fair hearing in court.
